Safe With Me is book five in Kristen Proby’s Seattle series. I have been waiting for this book with bated breath. Caleb has intrigued me right from the beginning. His standoffish and reserved mannerisms have left me wanting more. I have also really liked Brynna from the point she was introduced to the series. Seeing her pine after Caleb for quite some time had me hoping that Caleb would soon wake up and smell the coffee. This story did not disappoint. I loved it!
Brynna Vincent is on the run with her two twin daughters. After having witnessed something she should have not, Brynna returns to Seattle to be with her family and in an attempt to stay off the radar. The Montgomery clan has stepped in and taken in Brynna and her girls as one of their own. The ones that know about Brynna’s reason for her return home are invested in keeping all three girls safe. When Brynna first moves to Seattle, she never expected to feel such an overwhelming attraction towards one of the Montgomery brothers. One year of yearning after someone who doesn’t seem to reciprocate her undying lust, has left Brynna frustrated to say the least. When Brynna’s safety comes into question, the Montgomery brothers decide to step up their game and decide that Brynna and her daughters need to have constant protection. With that, Caleb is the one that moves into her home. Well now! What’s a girl to do when the object of her affection is so close and tempting????
Caleb Montgomery may be an ex Navy SEAL; however, the lingering effects from his time in service have left him damaged, broken and suffering from PTSD. The guilt he carries over things that were not in his control has been a burden that keeps him up at night. His feelings of unworthiness and lack of any self-esteem are very real and have him believing that he is not capable or worthy of having love in his life. He is now in a position to protect the one woman he cares for and who has slowly been attempting to break through his stoic and hardened outer shell. But, despite Caleb’s inner battle with himself over the undeniable chemistry between him and Brynna, he knows he needs to keep things strictly professional. She deserves so much better than what he can offer her. Doesn’t she?????
Being in close proximity to one another, it does not take long before the explosive chemistry shared by Caleb and Brynna is too hard to ignore. Right from the beginning, it is more than a sizzling hot attraction. Caleb cares for Brynna and her girls more than he cares to admit. Brynna knows that Caleb is a good man and she wants nothing more than for him to share his life with her and the twins. Caleb’s inability to move forward with Brynna leads to some turmoil and angsty parts that broke my heart. I wanted to slap Caleb upside his head as much as I wanted to hug and coddle him.
Brynna was an amazing character. She is patient, kind and desperately wants to fight for the “more” she desires with Caleb. She sees how Caleb is with her daughters and believes deep in her heart that he feels the same way she does. She simply does not understand his hesitations. The strong emotional connection that Brynna develops with Caleb soon has him running scared. Is Brynna strong enough to withstand the fire? How much is she willing to fight for the man she has fallen for?
One of the things that I adore about this series is that every time a new book comes out, it feels like coming home. All the characters feel like family. We get to catch up with all the Montgomery clan and the other couples. In this book, Kristen Proby also throws in some shocking surprises that almost left my jaw unhinged. We also get to know Matt Montgomery a little better and his book is next. I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for him. I have a feeling it will be a hot and kinky book! Wink, wink!
All in all, Safe With Me is another wonderful addition to this spectacular series that I am so in love with. Filled with funny banter, hilarious antics, sweet twin girls who don’t know when to be quiet, blistering hot sexy times, and a hero and heroine who are evenly matched – this book had it all. I am very much looking forward to the next book. I just wish Ms. Proby could write faster.
At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Oh yeah yeah
At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Oh yeah yeah
You smiled, you smiled
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine...
